Raising the standard of splitboard performance is one of the core principles of Jones’ DNA. From 3D Contour Bases to inner/outer edge Traction Tech and the Boltless Bridge we have always strived to incorporate new technologies into our splitboards that help you push your backcountry riding to the next level.

For our 21/22 collection we focused on improving the performance of one of the most important, but often overlooked elements of a splitboard - the splitboard clips. Split clips are critical to splitboard riding performance as they determine how tightly the two split skis hold together and they affect the torsional stiffness of the nose and tail. The weight of split clips also adds up. The lighter the clips, the lighter the overall splitboard weight.

Since 2010 we have exclusively sourced split clips made by Karakoram for all our splitboard models. Karakoram is the split clip industry leader and has consistently developed innovative new clip designs using their patented Active Joining Technology. This technology uses an over center cam lever to compress the split skis together tighter, while at the same time reducing the necessary opening and closing forces.

Karakoram has recently introduced two new splits clips that are now available on select Jones models - the Ultra Clip 3C and the Ultra Clip 2.0. The Ultra Clip 3C is a brand new clip design and the Ultra Clip 2.0 is a refined version of their proven Ultra Clip.

Karakoram Ultra Clips 3C

The Ultra Clip 3C is the new flagship of the Karakoram split clip line and offers the tightest connection at the lowest weight of any split clip in the world. It features a three point tension system that clamps perpendicular, parallel and vertically to the seam between the split skis. The 3D clamping design locks your board together tighter than any clip Karakoram has ever designed.

The Ultra 3C clips are made with CNC machined aluminum and are 36g lighter than standard Ultra Clips plus have a smaller footprint. The clips also include a micro adjustment feature that allows you to increase or decrease the clip tension with just the turn of a screw.

Karakoram Ultra 3C clips are exclusive to Jones for 21/22. Jones models featuring the Ultra 3C clips are the Ultra Solution and the Ultracraft Split.

Karakoram Ultra Clips 2.0

The redesigned Ultra Clips 2.0 are smaller, lighter and more powerful than the original Ultra Clips. The reduced clip footprint makes them 10% lighter than the standard Ultra Clip and the new design features a micro adjustment system that lets you increase or decrease the clip tension with just the turn of a screw.

Jones models that now feature the Ultra Clip 2.0 are the Solution, Women’s Solution, Storm Chaser Split and the Mind Expander Split.

Karakoram Ultra Clips 1.0

The original Karakoram Ultra Clips 1.0 remain some of the strongest, lowest profile splitboard clips in the world. They deliver exceptional compression between board halves and they are adjustable so you can maintain even clip tension as your splitboard ages.

All Jones splitboard models now feature one of the three versions of the Karakoram Ultra Clips. The models that have been upgraded to the Karakoram Ultra Clip 1.0 are the Hovercraft Split, Women’s Hovercraft Split, Mountain Twin Split, Frontier Split, Dream Catcher Split and Youth Solution.

Active Joining Technology

All Karakoram split clips use Active Joining Technology. This technology pre-loads the splitboard skis together using an over-centered cam lever. The tension placed on the lever pulls the board halves together and dramatically improves the overall stiffness and compression forces of the connection. Active Joining Technology keeps your board torsionally stiffer in ride mode, but with just a flick, the split clip will pop open and release the compression to allow easy disassembly.

Karakoram Tip-Lock tip clips

Split clips are not the only critical clip on a splitboard. The tip clips that hold the very tip of the nose and tail together in ride mode are also super important for descent performance. The tip clip must be strong, durable and avoid loosening over time. To guarantee unmatched tip clip performance we use only Karakoram tip clips on all Jones splitboard models. Several of our split models also now feature Karakoram’s Tip-Lock Tip Clips.

Every splitboarder knows the feeling - you drop into a firm line and your tip clip pops open! Karakoram Tip-Lock Tip Clips solve that long standing issue by incorporating a locking mechanism in the clip design. With just the flick of a lever the Tip-Lock Tip Clips quickly lock clip and eliminate the potential of the clip popping open.

Jones split models featuring Karakoram Tip-Lock Tip Clips are the Ultra Solution, Solution, Women’s Solution, Storm Chaser Split, Mind Expander Split and Ultracraft Split.
